The method involves creating a suction air flow so that a negative pressure is created in a suction nozzle (2) of a vacuum cleaner. A force acting as a load and occurring during the cleaner pulling/pushing operation is found by a force measuring instrument (17), where the force is perceived by a user and the cleaner as a resistance to the operation. A counterforce is automatically applied against the resistance during the operation. An independent claim is also included for a vacuum cleaner with a suction nozzle.
