Individual layers(1,1) of the bearing shell(1) are molded around a core(K), one after another in separate injection molding tools(WZ1) having different internal diameters. A core(K) with the same dimensions as the joint ball is positioned in a first injection molding tool(WZ1). Soft elastic material(M1) is injected into a gap between the core and inner wall of the tool to form a first layer(1.1) around the core(K). After solidification of the first layer the first tool is removed. A second injection tool with an internal diameter greater than that of the first tool is positioned around the core and first layer and a gap between the first layer and the tool wall is filled with a hard elastic material to form a second layer. Following solidification of the second layer the core with both layers, is removed from the tool and the core removed from the two layers. Injected materials may be fed into the tool gaps via openings on either the ball side(OP) or ball pin side. The core may also be formed by the joint ball. An independent claim is included for a tool for molding the bearing shell comprising a core(K) which fits into different sized cavities of separate molding tools. The core has projecting areas(KE) on the outer surface and/or the inner surfaces of each tool have projecting areas(WE) and/or recesses(V) which according to the layer design form dividing slits and/or holding members.
