Inhibiting a phosphodiesterase enzyme in a mammal comprising administration of a composition (I) comprising Morinda citrifoliafruit juice concentrate, is new. Independent claims are also included for methods for: (1) reducing allergy reactions, increase the body energy of a mammal and to reduce asthma reactions comprising administration of (I) to inhibit the action of a PDE enzyme thereby increasing the level of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), decreasing immunoglobulin E and decreasing the secretion of histamine to decrease the allergic reaction; (2) increasing cAMP level and increasing the amount of glucose produced to increase the body energy of the mammal; and (3) increasing the level of cAMP and relaxing the muscle around the mammal's airways to decrease the severity of the reaction to asthma respectively. ACTIVITY : Antiallergic; Antiasthmatic. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Phosphodiesterases (PDEs) inhibitor. The ability of (I) to inhibit phosphodiesterases (PDE-6) was tested in Bovine retinal rod outer segments using biochemical assay. The median inhibitory concentration of (I) was 0.334%.
