The method involves operating the parking brake in a first mode after activation in the absence of wheel revolution rate values as long as the brakes (4) are not applied, otherwise operating the parking brake in a second mode. The parking brake is operated in the first mode if the lack of wheel revolution rate values is detected in a preceding operating interval. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) an electromechanically operated and/or lockable parking brake.
