Using cyano-NNO-azoxy compounds as antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic and antiviral agents in human or veterinary medicine for treatment of e.g. malaria and tuberculosis
Using cyano-NNO-azoxy compounds as antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic and antiviral agents in human or veterinary medicine for treatment of e.g. malaria and tuberculosis
Aromatic cyano-NNO-azoxy compounds (I) are used in preparing a composition for treating infections caused by fungi, bacteria, parasites or viruses, in humans or animals. Aromatic cyano-NNO-azoxy compounds of formula Cy-N(O)=N-CN (I) and their salts are used for preparing a composition for treating infections caused by fungi, bacteria, parasites or viruses, in humans or animals. Cy = 5-7C monocyclic aryl or bicyclic aryl of up to 12 C, where at least one ring C can be replaced by N, O or S (optionally substituted by one or more S1 and/or optionally fused to a further non-aromatic ring, in which 1 or 2 C may be replaced by N, O or S); S1 = 1-9C alkyl, 2-9C alkenyl or alkynyl, 1-9C acyl, cycloalkyl(0-9C alkyl) or aryl (all optionally substituted), OH, amino, halo, OR, NHR, NHC(O)R, C(O)NHR, or SO2NHR; and R = 1-9C alkyl, 2-9C alkenyl or alkynyl, cycloalkyl(0-9C alkyl) or aryl. An independent claim is also included for 3-Y-4-Z-1-(cyano-NNO-azoxy)benzenes of formula (I') as new compounds. Provided that when: (1) Y = H; Z = 4-chlorophenylcarbonylamino; phenylaminocarbonyl; cyclohexylaminosulfonyl; diphenylmethylcarbonylamino; 1,3-dioxolan-2-yl; 3,5-dimethylpyrimidin-2-yl-aminocarbonyl; methoxycarbonyl; (4-diethoxyphosphonylmethyl)phenyl-aminocarbonyl; cyclohexylaminocarbonyl; Ph-CH2O-N=CH-; formyl; benzoyloxymethyl; hydroxymethyl; prop-2-en-1-ylaminocarbonyl; cyclopropylaminocarbonyl; ethylaminocarbonyl and N-phenyl-N-methylaminocarbonyl; (2) Y = chloro; Z = acetylamino; or (3) Y and Z together complete OCH2CH2O or OCH2O. [Image] ACTIVITY : Antibacterial; Fungicide; Antiparasitic; Virucide; Protozoacide; Cytostatic; Dermatological; Antimalarial; Vulnerary; Tuberculostatic; Hepatotropic;Antitubercular; Antiinflammatory. 1-(Cyano-NNO-azoxy)-4-acetylaminobenzene (Ib) was tested for biological activity using microtitration. (Ib) had IC50 (mu g/ml) of 7 against Candida glabrata; 0.8 against Aspergillus niger and 0.3 against Trichosporon behrendii. MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given.
