The unit has a current collector, located in a detachable electrical contact that comprises contact wires, to supply electricity to an electrical drive engine via the contact wires. Load bearing parts (9) are arranged between the current collector and the engine. The parts include two electrical isolations (6, 7) and an electrically conductive intermediate layer (4) between the two isolations (6, 7). An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a drive unit.
