The detection device has a signal transmitter-receiver unit (1) mounted above the door and connected to a control circuit with central processor (10) and door monitoring unit (30) so that after the door is opened the central processor is activated by the door monitoring unit and regulates the signal unit to send out detection signals and determine from the reflected signals whether the doorway is clear and the door can be closed. The signal transmitter-receiver unit comprises an infra-red transmitter and infrared receiver with diodes and transistors.
