The ends of the lifting bolt (4) engage in through-bores (20,21) in lugs (1,2) forming part of a fork attached to a load. A hook may engage the bolt in the space (5) between the lugs. The bolt has an enlarged head (6) at one end and has a spring-loaded (8) pin (7) in a cross-bore in the end of the bolt remote from the head. An elongated pin (9) fits in an axial blind bore in the bolt and extends from the head. Its end inside the bolt is chamfered and can engage in a chamfered slot to push the bolt down against the spring-loaded pin.
