The method for the improving of the efficiency of boiler plants entails guiding a flow of feed water through at least one air preheater and at least one economizer, whereby through contact with the preheater the ambient air in the boiler plant is heated and flue gas is cooled in the economiser. The feed water for the temperature regulating of the air flows into the air preheater and is then fed to the economizer, and absorbs the heat from the flue gases, at the same time cooling them. An independent claim is included for a device for the improving of the efficiency of boiler plants in which at least one air preheater (2,2') with at least one economizer (1,1') are connected into the feed water flow (4) of the boiler plant for the heating of the combustion air and for the cooling of the flue gases.
