Hyperpolarization method for application to atomic nuclei, in which a mixture containing the atoms for hyperpolarization is fed into a sample cell such that their contact with the cell walls is minimized or avoided completely
Hyperpolarization of atomic nuclei by optical pumping within a sample cell, is new. A laser is used to polarize the electron spins of an optically pumpable species in a mixture. The electron spin is transferred to the nuclei of atoms that are to be hyperpolarized. Mixture components and or inert compounds required for the hyperpolarisation process are fed into the sample cell so that they only slightly touch or do not touch, the cell walls. An independent claim is also included for a corresponding device for carrying out the novel method. The device has means for producing a liner or cloaking flow of inert gas that prevents contact of the active mixture components with the cell wall.
