The method involves obtaining a piece of steel, and realizing a plastic deformation at cold for forming a gauge with a base (6). Another plastic deformation is realized at cold to obtain another gauge. The latter gauge is calibrated and a part of material constituting the base is extruded to form an opening to obtain a third gauge. Finishing of the third gauge is done to obtain a coupling unit. An independent claim is also included for a coupling unit such as yoke for universal joint.
