The mechanism for smoothing out printed sheets (4) comprises chain conveyors (8, 9), on which clips (4.1, 4.2) are mounted. These hold the ends of the sheets as they are passed over a smoother (14) mounted close to a non-linear section of the conveyor. An independent claim is included for sheet processing machines fitted with the mechanism.
