Mine shaft transport system has one or more transport means for transport, especially of personnel, between stopping points, particularly levels or beds. The transport system is controlled and monitored by an automation system. A digital, especially a completely digital automation system (4) is used for controlling the path of the transport cabins (32, 34) and has means for calculating set values for control of the transport system motor (6). An impulse counter (18, 20, 22) is used to determine the amount of cable paid out and the current speed of travel of a cabin in the shaft.
