The moving cover, and especially the folding roof of a convertible automobile, has two drive cylinders (1) at the sides to move it between the open and closed positions. The cylinder tubes (2) are closed at their axial ends by a cylinder base (3) and a cylinder head, with an inner piston (5) moving to and fro with a piston rod projecting through a drilling in the cylinder head. The cylinder is divided into two chambers (11,12), each with a connection (7) for hydraulic fluid. The cylinder has a centering setting using a pressure increase in a third chamber (13), to ensure that the moving roof is centered directly before it reaches the closed position.
