The method involves encoding the data produced by a computer (6) using a cryptographic technique. It involves feeding the data to be secured via a connector (4) of a mobile device (2) to a crypto-unit (12) in the mobile device, encrypting the data using an externally inaccessible secret value, writing the data to non-volatile memory (10) in the mobile device and decoding the encrypted data and feeding it to the computer for further use. An independent claim is also included for a device for securing digital data on a data medium.
