Separator for separating solids and other material from a liquid has a base body through which the liquid to be treated flows from an inlet weir to an outlet. The separator has at least a vertical, inclined and preferably curved wall in which there are a large number of holes. The wall is switched between the inlet and outlet to separate the solid material, while a non-return valve is provided to control the flow of liquid through the separator.
