An improved method for preventing build up of ice in air intakes, especially for gas turbine engines, has the operating conditions monitored to compute anticipated levels of icing and thereby provide an optimum feedback of heated compressed air from the compressor output back into the air intake. The control system samples the airflow downstream of the intake and especially monitors humidity and temperature as well as engine parameters. The recycling control is progressive as compared with the conventional on/off control method.
