The vessel has a body (32) and a heater (16) mounted in a base portion of the body. The vessel body has an annular surface (30) for receiving a seal (28), which is arranged between the heater and the annual surface. An axially compressible spring (38) is arranged to exert an axially biasing force for sealing the seal against the sealing surface. The spring includes a number of tongues (40) which located in recesses (42) provided in the vessel body. An independent claim is also provided for a method of mounting a heater in the base of a liquid heating vessel.
