The winding device for the continuous wrapping around with film of a longish object, and especially a beam (2), has an encompassing winding ring (4) mounted on a frame (3) and travelling in and against the direction of feed. A saw (7), and preferably a co-travelling circular cross-cut saw, is provided in front of the winding ring in the direction of feed. At least one support roller (5), preferably in a portal (6), is provided adjacent to the winding ring. The travelling movement of the winding ring and support roller are coordinated with one another by a programmable control unit.
