The assembly for a simultaneous treatment of sewage and organic residue gives anaerobic conditions where the sewage and organic matter pass through a two-stage reactor to give a hydrolysis and acid removal zone and a zone to produce methane. The reactor has an outer chamber (1) separated from an inner chamber (2) by a sieve plate (3) to retain solids and organic residue. The assembly for a simultaneous treatment of sewage and organic residue gives anaerobic conditions where the sewage and organic matter pass through a two-stage reactor to give a hydrolysis and acid removal zone and a zone to produce methane. The reactor has an outer chamber (1) separated from an inner chamber (2) by a sieve plate (3) to retain solids and organic residue. The inner chamber has a solid bed (4) with colonies of microorganisms to convert dissolved organic matter into methane. The mixed biogas passes out through an outlet (6) in the cover. A recirculating pump (7) is within the inner chamber. A rotating brush unit (13) cleans the sieve plate.
