The tester has an inspection head (3) with an ultrasonic testing system. The head is connected to a stable feed open-link chain (4) such that it is operated in and against a feed direction. The head is fed into an inner hole of a workpiece by a toothed drive. The chain (4) is designed such that drive teeth of the toothed drive engages in drive slots of the chain (4) in a positive locking manner.
