A kitchen bread slicing machine has a semi-circular cutting blade that rotates on a shaft. The shaft rests in bearings at each end and is powered by a worm-drive electric motor. The shaft has a mass balance that brings the combined centre of gravity of the blade and shaft to the axis of horizontal rotation. The mass balance is a metal rod which is eccentric to the axis of rotation and attached to the shaft. The distance between the mass balance and the shaft is adjustable.
