Computer system (100) for carrying out a program update on a networked computer, e.g. for updating application and or operating system software over the Internet. The system has means (102, 104, 106) for sending a request for the downloading of an update to another computer, e.g. a server including a time for the update to be carried out. A response is received which may include a different availability time for a download. The computer then uses means for replacing the original requested availability time with a new availability time. An independent claim is made for a computer program product for making a program update available.
