The fixing element comprises a plastics holder (2) with hollow shaft (3). Between a dowel fitting (6) and the plastics holder is an adapter (30) which is rotationally secured on the holder. An anti-rotational lock is formed between the adapter and dowel fitting in that the core (23) of the dowel during the screw-in process moves linearly into a socket chamber (31) of the adapter. The core has a non-circular cylindrical cross-section, preferably a square which fits in the preferably square internal cross-section of the socket chamber. The core can have inside a thread (37) aligned axially relative to the longitudinal axis.
