A jig for laying flooring panels, e.g. parquet panels, has a body (2) with an angled slot (3) with a spacing which fits onto a panel. The slot has a rear profile (6) to locate the outer edge of the panel to be laid and the jig is supported to set the optimum angle of the slot, by a stay. The jig enables the operator hold the new panel at the optimum angle to clip into the edge of the laid panel, enabling the fresh panel to swing onto the floor, e.g. onto a prepared adhesive stripe. The jig can be made of any suitable material, e.g. wood, while the stay is metal.
