The tool unit is for pressing and/or stamping workpieces and has several tools (96,98) commonly moved by a press plate and working in conjunction with space-wise fixed counter tools (100,102). At least one of the tools is connected by a controllable power transmission unit (56-2) with the common press plate. The controllable power transmission unit has a controllable deadlock connection (70) tensioned elastically in one of its end positions. It has a power transmission body (138), which via a drive (142) is locatable between a work position closing the power connection between an input part (68) and an output part (86), closing the deadlock connection and a rest position, interrupting that connection.
