A simple bone mill for surgical applications comprises a hand operated mill with a drive knob (30) fitted with a plunger which is pulled out of the mill to enable bone fragments to be dropped in. The bone fragments are ground on a rasp and the bone meal drops through holes in the rasp for collecting in a reservoir. The mill is made of stainless steel parts with a plastic covered drive knob (34).
