A method for periodic testing of an alarm on a sprinkler protection system has a test bypass (9) with test valve (10) between the line pressure inlet (2, 3) of the sprinkler and pressure switch (1) and the outlet of the pressure switch. This enables an operator to briefly press the test valve and applying a test water pressure to the alarm system (5) without using quantities of water.
