The lid (1) for a container comprises an outer face (5) and an inner face (6) which is in contact with the container to be closed off. The lid is manufactured from a silicone material and is constructed with a central section (2) and an outer circumferential section (3) which encompasses the central section. The thickness of the outer circumferential section lies between 2-4 mm. and the thickness of the central section is greater than that of the outer circumferential section.
