The tensioning rod (9,10) for an awning cloth (1) has two rails between which the cloth is clamped and on their ends has fastening means for the fastening of the tensioning rod on fastening devices. The fastening means have two flat protrusions installed approximately perpendicular to one another, the first of which forms a bearing surface and the second extends downwards from the plane defined by the first protrusion. At least one rib is provided on the underside of the first protrusion.
