Gripping or clamping device comprises a wedge hook transmission (1) for transferring the linear motion of an actuating element (2) to a clamping jaw (3) that interact via at least one wedge hook (4a, 4b) and at least one engagement region. Profiles (6a, 6b) on the wedge hook and the engagement region are arranged at an angle to a movement direction (7) of the actuating element. The wedge hook and/or the engagement region have a stress concentration-reducing rounded region in at least one geometric section.
