The device for the paint or lacquer coating of especially a coilable metal sheet has a first coil holder (103) for the rotatable inlet side holding of a first coil (105) of metal sheet (106), and a second coil holder (113) downstream of an infrared dryer (109) for holding a second coil of metal sheet with the dried coating. The device particularly has a drive which is functionally allocated to the first or second coil holder, whereby no additional means are provided for the influencing of the running characteristics of the sheet metal.
