The sliding bearing, for papermaking and cardboard production machines etc., has hydrostatic bearing units (3a,3b) at the bearing frame structure (5) with sliding elements (4) placed against the roller running surfaces and give the roller rotary support around its axis (2). Static support bodies (30) bear against the roller surface in emergency situations where the bearing units cannot give support and act as a brake on the roller rotation. The sliding surfaces are of a polymer, ceramic or coated metal. The static supports can be fitted with monitor sensors.
