The throttle valve has two valve chambers (24,25) interconnected via an overflow opening (26) in which fits a throttling component (33) with circumferentially distributed overlapping longitudinal slots (38) of varying cross section. The first ends of the longitudinal slots pointing in the same axial direction lie on different axial levels of the throttling component in such a way that by axial adjustment of the throttling component different flow passages are determined which consist of cross sections of a different number of longitudinal slots.
