The component(5) to be welded has a separate guide(10) to ensure accurate location around an opening in the support. The guide projects beyond the end face(8) of the welding member and engages in the support opening of the support to ensure guidance during the actual welding stage. The guide(10) is heat resistant, electrically insulating and can be clamped onto the component(5) to be welded by inserting an engaging area(11) into an opening in the welding component. Grip between the two components is enhanced by serrations or grooves on the guide outer surface(12) which has a similar shape to that of the opening in the welding component. The guide has a chamfer on the end facing away from the welding component and an opening into which part of the welding apparatus inserts during welding to produce a magnetic field. Projection of the guide beyond the end face(8) of the welding component is 1-5mm. An independent claim is included for a welding combination comprising a ring or cylindrical welding component and a guide member(10) connected to the component, the guide projecting beyond the end face of the welding component and engaging in a hole or opening in a support to align the component to be welded onto the support during the welding stage.
