The variable-capacity store (1) has an endless conveyor (8) with a conveying branch (9) for transferring the elongated elements from an input station (3) to an output station (4) of the store, and a return branch (10) extending from the output station to the input station. Each branch (9,10) is coiled about a relative pair (11,12) of transmission drums (13,15;14,15); and the two pairs (11,12) of transmission drums share a common transmission drum (15) movable transversely in controlled manner.
