The device for the protecting of wooden supports or rods against rotting comprises a spacer (1) fitted on the underside of the support and which has an upwards protruding and encompassing rib (3) for pressing into the end face of the wooden support. The rib has wedge-shaped cross section with the upper edge (4) running into a point. The spacer has a cylindrical base component (2) which has a hollow cylindrical outer section and an inner stabilizing cross. The spacer may be made of plastic or metal.
