The locking device for the securing of containers, especially on ships, has a base component (6) from which extends an upper immovable locking protrusion (8) which can be brought into engagement with a bottom corner fitting of one container (2) to create a positive lock. A lower immovable locking protrusion (10) extends from the base component and can be brought into engagement with a top corner fitting of another container (4) to create a positive lock. The base component is constructed in such a way that it fits in corner fittings of two containers stacked directly one upon the other.
