The anti-skid device for vehicle wheels running on pneumatics for ice and snow surfaces comprises arm-like grip element carriers (50) that are provided with spikes on the free ends thereof, said carriers being arranged on a carrier element (10). The carriers partly enclose the tire tread and are bent on one end. The grip element carriers (50) are alternatingly pivotal. In order to adapt to different sizes of tires, the distance of the fixing points (55) of each grip element carrier (50) in a carrier element (10) can be modified with relation the tire tread (111) on the journal bearing (30). After adjustment to the size of the tire, the fixing point (55) for each grip element carrier (50) can be fixed.
