The invention relates to a device for guiding two subassemblies of a motor vehicle, particularly a motor vehicle seat, in one direction, said two subassemblies being movable relative to each other. The inventive device comprises two guiding elements that are spaced apart in a direction extending perpendicular to the guiding direction and are coupled to one another by means of a joining element, and two guiding mechanisms within which one of the guiding elements is mounted, respectively, so as to be movable in the guiding direction. Stops which delimit a movement of the guiding elements relative to the respective guiding mechanisms in the direction perpendicular to the guiding direction are associated with the guiding elements on the guiding mechanisms. According to the invention, a first of the two guiding elements is mounted in the associated guiding mechanism with a small amount of play perpendicular to the guiding direction such that a relative movement of the guiding element and the associated guiding mechanism is made possible in the guiding direction while a substantial relative movement in the transversal direction is prevented. Furthermore, the second guiding element is mounted in the associated guiding mechanism with a greater amount of play in the transversal direction.
