The switching system (1) has a vacuum switching tube (7) in a gas chamber for generating a magnetic field with ferromagnetic field control elements (10) that shield at least one vacuum switching tube against the effects of external magnetic fields generated by other vacuum switching tubes. The vacuum switching tubes are arranged mutually parallel to form a switch arrangement. The field control elements are partly outside the switch arrangement.
