The portable test lever (1) has a short arm (2,9) with a forked end (4) which may jam onto the thickened end of a cable attached to the shaft wall. It is fastened to the end of a long arm (10) by a lockable pivot (3) with a clamp or bearing (5) which may engage a stop block on an elevator cable. The long lever is flexible and has force (6) and acceleration (11) sensors connected to a calculator (7) and a signal transmitter (8). A test load may be applied to the end of the long lever.
