The electrical machine has a stator (3) with current-carrying windings and an at least partly magnetisable rotor (2) with a number of permanent magnets (7) in the peripheral direction, each embedded in a holder (6) between the peripheral surface and the shaft (4) of the rotor so that the magnets are fully enclosed by the peripheral surface in the radial direction. Material cut-outs (8) in the sides of the magnet holders in the peripheral direction extend axially within the rotor.
