Orthodontic, orthopaedic appliance to correct Class II malocclusions - has links rotating in holders attached to upper and lower molars and has cylinder and piston connecting links with spring inside cylinder
The appliance includes upper and lower tube sections which are attached to upper and lower molars respectively. A link housing (7a,b) is rotatably attached to the tubing sections (14a,b) and has a link (8a,b) mounted in it so that it rotates in and out of the link holder. A cylinder is pivotably joined at a closed end to the free end of the upper link. A piston slides within the cylinder and is pivoted at its free end to the lower link. Aligning pins (10a,b) fit in holes in the cylinder and grooves (9) in the piston sides to prevent rotation or pulling out of the cylinder. A compression spring fits between the piston end and a recess in the bottom of the cylinder, so that when the mouth is closed the piston is driven into the cylinder to compress the spring and create downward and forward forces on the lower jaw.
