The present invention relates to a method of synthesis of the carboxyl - 2 - anthraquinone from one anthraquinone alkylated in position 2 by oxidation of said alkyl group by means of a solution of nitric acid. The alkyl group of the alkyl - 2 - anthraquinone is chosen from the group including methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, dry, -, - tertio butyl and amyl. The anthraquinones are used in the manufacture of films of oxygen absorbers enabling the production of packages adapted to the preservation of products sensitive to the oxygen, such as the food products.
