PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to discriminate whether a collating pattern is identical with a registered pattern or not even when a rotational deviation exists between the registered pattern and the collating pattern by substantially fixing a collating fingerprint and executing collation between the registered fingerprint and the collating finger print while rotating the registered fingerprint. ;SOLUTION: A user inputs an ID number allocated to the user himself by the use of ten keys 10-1 and puts a finger on the prism 10-32 of a fingerprint sensor 10-3. The pattern of the sampled fingerprint (fingerprint to be collated) is applied to a control part 20 as a gray scale image. The collating fingerprint is substantially fixed, and while rotating a registered fingerprint in each degree from -90° in the positive direction, collation between the registered fingerprint and the collating fingerprint is executed. When both the fingerprints coincide with each other before +90°, the collation of both the fingerprints is ended.
