A dye for keratinic fibers, especially hair comprises at least one direct cationic colorant and at least one cationic or amphoteric polymer. A dye for keratinic fibers, especially hair comprises at least one direct cationic colorant of formula (I) and at least one cationic or amphoteric polymer selected from: (1) homo- and copolymers of dimethyldiallylammonium halide; (2) homo- and copolymers of methacryloyloxyethyltrimethylammonium halide; (3) quaternary polyammonium polymers of formulas (II) - (IV); and/or (4) vinylpyrrolidone copolymers with methacrylamidopropyltrimethylammonium units or methylvinylimidazolium units.
