Purified nucleic acid (I) comprising at least part of the sequence encoding human myoneurin (II) having BTB/POZ domains and zinc fingers, where (I) is a 2835 base pair sequence (S1), or a sequence with at least 70% homology to (S1), is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) transcripts (III) generated from (I); (2) a diagnostic reagent for differential detection of complete or partial human sequences comprising (1) or its fragments, or an alternative myoneurin sequence of 2719 bp (64); (3) rapid, differential detection of myoneurin in its normal or pathogenic variants, by hybridization and/or amplification; (4) detecting (III); (5) translation products (peptides) (IV) encoded by (I); (6) antibodies (Ab) directed against (IV); (7) differential immunological detection of normal or pathological myoneurin sequences; and (8) a hybrid nucleic acid containing (I) combined with sequences or motifs having anomalous structural characteristics.
