The system comprises a first optical communication link and second optical communication link for each subscriber station. These provide multiplexing and demultiplexing of electrical signals and conversion into optical signals of two predefined wavelengths.( lambda 1). Each station includes a multiplexing and demultiplexing device enabling the first and second optical communication links to connect to an optical channel by means of a single bi-directional optical connection. The system for increasing the volume of data passing through a subscriber station comprises a first optical communication link. This provides multiplexing and demultiplexing of electrical signals and conversion into optical signals of predefined wavelength ( lambda 1). This first optical link is connected to an optical telecommunication loop comprising at least one bi-directional optical channel. A second optical communication link is also provided, operating at a different predefined wavelength ( lambda 2). Each station includes a multiplexing and demultiplexing device connecting the first and second optical communication links to the optical channel of the loop by means of a single bi-directional optical connection.
