The instrument consists of a syringe containing a local anaesthetic, a hollow needle, a mandrel and a catheter (20) in the form of a supple tube (21) that is inserted through the needle. The distal end (22) of the catheter is formed by a spiral filament (23) of stainless steel wire or a synthetic material. The filament is up to 0.15 mm thick, and the spiral, which has touching or spaced coils, is at least 5 mm and up to 30 mm long.
